The Giving season

The Saturday after Thanksgiving and every Saturday up to the new year we give gifts to our babes. We wanted to capitalize on the fun and joy that gift giving brings to our children while they are young, but also deemphasize the gift receiving aspect on Christmas Day. Klint says it best… “we have a limited amount of time with our kids and the excitement will eventually disappear. By doing a giving season we can extend the amount of time we get to experience that excitement while they are young,” The giving season also allows the kiddos to enjoy each item they receive verses being overwhelmed by the whole lot.”
This does not mean we do not celebrate Christmas, we just felt that the extravagance on Christmas Day should be left to time with family and celebrating Jesus’ birth. With the gifts on top of that, we felt that it deemphasized the ultimate gift that God has given us.
Eventually, when the kids get older, we hope to turn their receiving gifts during the giving season into them giving of themselves. Be it gifts to family and friends, giving time and sweat to people in need, etc.
