Egg on our face
We have a problem. It seems to have all started when the littles were introduced to the ladies in the chicken run. We would notice a pecked egg, here, a pecked egg, there, but didn’t mint necessarily because we had pretty much two dozen eggs coming in like clockwork even with the little bit of loss. Fast forward to present day… now we are only getting three eggs a day, if we are lucky.
So what happened? It appears that half our chickens have found a taste for their own eggs. This is evident by all the egg dried on their heads! Which means we let a small problem turn into a big one. This is definitely a learning first year for us. Hopefully we can increase the amount of food they are getting from us so they don’t peck the eggs. If not, the. Now we will be looking to eliminate our flock and start fresh in the spring. That is a whole lot of stew birds. I am tired just thinking about it.
